EV Charging Installation - Site Survey to Commissioning

7 steps. Survey to signed off.

Step by step
1
Enquiry QualificationLeads

Capture site type, tenure, parking situation, and smart meter status. Confirm OZEV or Workplace Charging Scheme eligibility. Record the lead and assign to a surveyor.

2
Site SurveyeForms App

Record supply capacity, consumer unit location, cable run distance, earthing arrangement, and proposed charger position. Photograph the fuse board and meter. Flag any consumer unit or cabling work that affects the quote.

3
Quote PreparationQuotes

Price the charger unit, cable run, installation labour, and any consumer unit upgrade. Include DNO notification costs where required and confirm net grant pricing. Set validity period and send for approval.

4
Order and Equipment ProcurementPurchase Orders

On quote acceptance, raise a purchase order for the charger unit and materials. Schedule the install date. Confirm Wi-Fi details and site access requirements for the installation day.

5
InstallationJobs

Complete cable run, mount and connect the charger unit, and carry out electrical testing to BS 7671. Connect the charger to the customer's Wi-Fi and complete initial device configuration.

6
DNO Notification and CommissioningJobs

Submit G98 or G99 notification to the Distribution Network Operator where required. Commission the charger using manufacturer software. Demonstrate operation to the customer and configure smart charging schedules.

7
Handover and Final InvoiceInvoices

Issue the electrical installation certificate, as-installed record, and any grant claim documentation. Compile the customer handover pack and raise the final invoice.

What this workflow solves

Site surveys are booked without capturing enough electrical detail, so quotes miss consumer unit upgrades or extended cable runs - the job ends up costing more than quoted and the margin disappears.

OZEV grant eligibility is not confirmed before the customer commits, causing the job to stall when the installer discovers the customer is ineligible after the quote has already been accepted.

Commissioning paperwork - electrical installation certificate, DNO notification confirmation, and as-installed record - is completed informally and takes days to compile for the customer handover pack after the job is physically complete.
