Workflow Scenario

Renewables - MCS Registration and SEG Application After Solar Installation

Commission. Register. Invoice. Done.

Step by step
1
Record Commissioning TestseForms App

Capture all commissioning test results on-site using an eForms checklist: insulation resistance per string, open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, string performance ratio, and inverter first-start result. Timestamp each result at the point of test.

2
Compile Handover PackJobs

Assemble the full handover documentation in the job record: commissioning test sheet, panel and inverter warranties, battery warranty if applicable, system schematic, installation manual, and DNO notification or G99/G98 reference number.

3
Register in MCS DatabaseJobs

Log into the MCS Installations Database and register the installation: technology type, system specification (panel make/model, inverter make/model, total kWp), commissioning date, customer address, and certified installer details.

4
Issue MCS CertificateeForms

Issue the MCS Installation Certificate to the customer with the certificate number and MID registration reference confirmed in writing. Issue on commissioning day - within ten working days at the latest.

5
Brief Customer on SEGJobs

Include a written SEG briefing in the handover pack: SEG registration is the customer's responsibility, they apply via their supplier's SEG portal with the MCS certificate and meter MPAN, and payments backdate to the certificate date - not the application date.

6
Raise Final InvoiceInvoices

Issue the final invoice on commissioning day, referencing the MCS certificate number and commissioning date. Deduct the deposit paid and confirm the payment method.

7
Archive and Close JobJobs

Close the job record with all compliance documents archived: commissioning test results, MID registration reference, MCS certificate copy, handover pack, DNO confirmation, and final invoice.

What this workflow solves

Final invoices are delayed because MCS database registrations are batched weekly rather than completed on commissioning day, leaving jobs technically complete but unbilled.

Customers assume the installer has handled SEG registration on their behalf and wait months before discovering they have been exporting electricity without receiving any payment.

Commissioning test results are not captured on-site at the time of testing, creating compliance documentation gaps that take significantly longer to reconstruct than to record correctly from the start.
